Painting Log : 13.10.2017

When the house settles and quietens, often it’s long after dark, I read. Often it’s a book of poems (Magpie Words by Richard Caddel is a well-thumbed favourite at the moment…). Perhaps I watch a video of a contemporary artist (tonight a documentary on the Danish artist TAL R) and then the ideas flow.

Ideas can be as fleeting as dreams and need pinning down before they’re gone. They’re butterflies, bright and colourful and magnificent. I scrabble with my butterfly net and if I’m lucky snare a few odds and ends in the sketchbook by my bed…

The painting day this Friday 13th has been disjointed and a planned painting focus never materialised. Disappointing. Still a little got achieved…

More practical stuff, more edging of canvases with various colours…
And I made a start on one of the backdrops that’ll reflect the ‘quilt’ idea… Next steps – the green ‘framework’ will be expanded into a squared grid…
